What is Alpage cheese?
Sbrinz is considered by many to be the oldest cheese in Europe. The addition of the word “Alpage” signifies a Sbrinz made at a very high altitude in the Alps. Here, cows are transported to graze on the summer’s flowery, grassy pastures, and only the summer’s milk is used to make cheese designated as Alpage.
What is special about Gruyere cheese?
Gruyère cheese is generally known as one of the finest cheeses for baking, having a distinctive but not overpowering taste. In quiche, Gruyère adds savoriness without overshadowing the other ingredients. It is a good melting cheese, particularly suited for fondues, along with Vacherin Fribourgeois and Emmental.
Is Gruyère grass fed?
Swiss Gruyère, controlled by government quality standards, is made from the raw milk of grass-fed cows. Most Gruyère made outside of Switzerland (with the exception of French Gruyère) is made with pasteurized milk. Gruyère has a more assertive flavor than the other famous Swiss cheese, Emmenthal.

Gruyère is a perfect pairing with fruits, crackers, pecans, bread and mustard. An aged Gruyère can be eaten on its own, if you enjoy its complex nutty flavor. Gruyère cheese can be paired with beer, wine or whiskey, but the pairing will depend on the age of the Gruyère.
Does Trader Joe’s sell Gruyere cheese?
